| Shaving Eyes Nightfall, his consciousness slips... finally...
And for the ten thousandth time
Where am I?
A street, I'm walking down a vacant street,
And I'm not sure how I got here, but I think I flew.
In my hand... it's an invitation.
"Come As You Are"
Then why am I in a tux?
This is the house (how do...) don't ask dumb
questions,
this is the house.
Up the stairs... one quick check in the mirror
and my tie loosens itself?
Somehow I remember that the next time I see myself
I'll be shaving... but it's not important now.
I'm greeted by a man who looks like my grandfather
but isn't
He's dead... so I'd thought.
Knowing what I drink, he hands it to me.
Our glasses clink in the manner of friends, and we catch up.
Ahhh, fully awake now...
It's a nice party... lots of mingling...
couples all over the dance floor...
For a long time I speak with three other men
about an ancient war... times best forgotten.
Later, and the crowd is thinning...
I'm thinking about leaving too when across the room
- the loveliest pair of eyes I've ever seen -
That's all I remember, the eyes that I'll never forget.
"... dance?"
"Of course, it's our song..."
We dance closely ... de ja vouz ...
She talks and whispers to me,
but her eyes distract me so (our song??)
and I can't remember what she just said...
She strokes my beard
... she gives me a flower...
and one soft kiss...
Already? No! But it is... O those eyes... but no, time to go...
quickly now, out the window - the sun has risen...
luckily he's such a late sleeper...
Pathetic bastard though - work, work, work
But I may even be getting through to him...
Some mornings, when he's shaving...
I can see how he regrets doing it everyday.
Still, as my consciousness slips,
I can't help thinking that if by chance
he were to actually meet those eyes while I slept ...
He probably wouldn't recognize them.
