Epilogue

Sweet Paradise of Oblivion

We've all been there,
at least once in our lifetime
and many, many times for some...

Standing on the edge,
gazing into the abyss,
wishing for an end to it all...
Tears in our eyes and longing for oblivion.

There's not much to say about those who don't come back (rest in peace, maybe?)...
But about those who do come back...   Why?

Why didn't you do it?
Why didn't I?

Sad to say, but I think in many cases
it's simply because we're chicken...

Some stop and think about their families and friends,
what it might do to them...
(congratulations to these people - instead of victims you've become unsung martyrs -
don't let it go to your head though).

And then there are the chickens
who use the family and friends as an excuse.
These people usually wind up hating life
even more, and their families and friends, too...
And eventually return to the abyss, to try again.

Finally, there are those precious few
who actually make a choice however.
No thoughts of family or friends to hold them back,
and death deceptively coming on as more of a friend, than foe -
Tensed, ready, already over the edge,
then somehow frozen -
hypnotized by the very abyss they were so sure
they were about to jump into.

"You don't have to die," whispers the abyss.

"Jump, if that's really what you want...
     But wouldn't you rather fly...
            than die?"
"Jump, but don't end it all...
        Jump back in, and soar..."

It's a magic moment, really.

You can't help but recognize these people once they've come back...
Once they've returned from from their definitive encounter with The Abyss...
The gleam in the eye, the mischievous smile, always
telling you to make the most of a bad situation...

Annoying fucks, really.

People who pour passion into every movement,
who find joy in every sunrise, who'll go to any absurd length
just to make an infant smile...
Over sensitive, over caring, yet somehow
incredibly self-centered and obnoxious...

The bleeding hearts and the artists of the world.

These are the precious few,
who when they finally do return to the abyss,
it's not to die, or to cry,
or even to fly...

They come simply to enjoy the view.

"Death, O Death,
Sweet Paradise of Oblivion,
- Get away from me!"
Marv N South - bleeding heart and artist, and old friend from back in the day

"And if you gaze into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into you..." Fredriech Nietzche, German philosopher

"Some hand in hand, some gathered together in bands, the bleeding hearts and the artists take their stand."
Roger Waters, Pink Floyd The Wall

For Marv N. South, Shannon Lawless, Darrin Lighter, and myself - "Together we are, The Three Amigos!"

No, all things considered, I rather think I'd like to go on...
