Crash Debris

Was the Star of Bethlehem a UFO? Nah. Despite the efforts of some of ufology's more crackpot researchers to "own" this event, an online article published by Henry Morris, Ph.D., argues that the star the eastern magi astronomers saw (and were watching for, knowledgeable of prophecy as they were) was the earliest recorded Supernova in earth's history. His online article When They Saw The Star also documents that "the star" was seen on various continents around the world, and therefore was not even an event local to Israel. Keep your faith where it belongs this Christmas!  -ed

"UFO Skeptics"

Sometimes I'm asked by both sincere and insincere people to somehow prove to them that UFOs or abductions are real, worth studying, etc (note that I differentiate this challenge from proving that "aliens" are real, or exist.) While a good question, I'm reminded of the text on the cover of Mike Heiser's Facade which states that "Most people don't really want the truth ; they're just looking for answers that confirm their prejudices." This is true on both sides of the belief issue. Far too many people have the attitude "Don't confuse me with the facts, my mind is already made up."

At the risk of being crass, ignorance of available information is the ONLY possible excuse one can use for making a statement such as "There is no evidence that UFOs and/or abductions are real." But for those willing to honestly study the issues and make up their minds only after examining the available evidence...

Below are pretty much the best sources I can point a person to as an introduction, broken up into two groups - (a) best documentation that UFOs are real AND that world governments are aware of them, and (b) best documentation that abductions are real, and probably happening to someone you know (1 in 40 is the median number published by University studies, and Roper & Gallup polls from 1990-present). Note however, that I am also not implying that these phenomena are as directly related as many UFO and abduction believers believe them to be. There may be almost NO direct correlation in fact, but we'll leave that debate open for another day.

Among modern authors, nobody has done a better job of documenting the UFO "paper trail" than Richard Dolan (1*), and before him I'd say that honor went to Timothy Good (2). Mike Heiser (3) condenses an amazing amount of documentation from various sources (in novel format), and Bill Lynne (4) makes a good case for the existence - but earthly origin - of at least many UFOs.

Probably one but definitely any two of the above books should make the case for (at bare minimum) the REALITY of UFOs (whatever their nature) for any "honest skeptic." Well worth mentioning also are Clifford Stone's UFOs Are Real, John Greenewald's Beyond UFO Secrecy*, Jim Marrs' Alien Agenda and perhaps Vesco & Hatcher-Childress's Man-Made UFOs. Older and mostly out-of-print, if you can find them, anything by Jacques Vallee would top this list as well.

A little harder to pin down because of the nature of the experience, the abduction phenomenon has nonetheless been well documented as well - by HIGHLY CREDENTIALED PEOPLE. Because of their credentials, I first submit/suggest John Mack's (Harvard University) Abduction (1), followed by David Jacob's (Temple University) books Secret Life (2) & The Threat (3). Finally if not firstly, C.D.B. Bryan's Close Encounters of the Fourth Kind (M.I.T. Conference report) is a definite "must-read" standard as well.

For those keeping score, the above lists represent two Pulitzer Prizes, and enough Ph.D.s, ex-military personnel and journalistic credentials to run a small country. Skeptics will be forced to ask why men of such reputation, would risk them entirely to publish books on this topic, unless they were certain they were dealing with a real phenomenon - and further - why would they feel a need to share their findings with peers, and a critical world? I'm sure they would all tell you the money is not worth what they've endured, to bring this subject to greater public attention.

(*)For interested parties, Richard Dolan, John Greenewald and others are speaking at the Ancient of Days conference (http://www.AncientofDays.net) in Roswell NM, July 2004. A list of upcoming UFO Conferences, where both frauds and experts alike unfortunately mix, can be found on my Breaking UFO News page.
